The Ultimate Gift To Your Children
Will You Be Giving Your Children A Gift Or A Burden?

While most people make financial arrangements for handling their estate, the huge emotional & physical burden of disposing of their personal property & selling their homes is often passed on to their heirs without a plan.

According to AARP, almost 90% of older Americans would prefer to remain in their current homes for the rest of their lives.

The decision to remain in your home is understandable and it is a desirable option, however, you should consider how that decision will impact your children.

If you decide to remain in your current residence, ultimately, the burden of disposing of ALL of your personal property and your house is going to fall on your children’s shoulders.

Do you really want to burden your children with that huge hassle?

REMEMBER

  • Your children may not have time to spare.
  • Your children have lives & families of their own.
  • Your children may not live nearby so it could be a logistical ordeal for them.
  • Don’t assume your kids want your stuff. Younger families are choosing to live in smaller homes, rejecting the excessive accumulation of material objects – even family heirlooms.

What is your plan for lightening that load and facilitating that process for your children?

Give your children a gift (instead of a burden) by decluttering your house now while you are able.

Start decluttering and purging your possessions now. Donate or discard everything except what you need to be comfortable.

If you feel it's too much trouble, your children are going to feel the same way when you dump that burden on them.

Disposing of your unnecessary possessions NOW
& formulating a plan about what to do with your house
would be an act of kindness to your children.

IMAGINE THE FUTURE.
You are gone, and your children are grieving while at the same time dealing with the enormous burden you left behind for them.
How does that make you feel?

MEMO TO OLDER PARENTS:
Your Children Do NOT Want Your Stuff.

It’s a tough pill to swallow but it’s true. Don’t take it personally. It’s not that they don’t love you, or appreciate family traditions. It’s just that lifestyles have changed. Their generation considers possessions temporary with limited life spans.

SUGGESTION: Offer your “stuff” to your children NOW. Store or give them the items they want and whatever they do not want (or you no longer need) should be donated (or sold) to someone who would be grateful to have them.

I know you are hoping your children will change their minds but, they will not.

By holding onto possessions for which you have no use (hoarding), you are depriving others (who might genuinely need those items) from being able to use them. Frankly, by holding onto possessions that you no longer need, you are being greedy.

NOTE: Once you donate/sell your non-essential possessions, they are not “gone”. Instead, they will continue to be enjoyed & used by someone. And that someone will appreciate having them.

Let’s face it, the non-essential possessions you do NOT donate/sell & your children do NOT want, will most likely, end up in a dumpster in front of your house when you leave.

Don’t make your children prisoners of YOUR possessions.

Give your children with a gift ... instead of a burden.
Formulate a plan NOW for disposing of your stuff.
