Edgemont, officially known as Greenville, is a census-designated place (CDP). Edgemont is a 2.76-square mile area nested within the Town of Greenburgh. It is located approximately 22 miles north of New York City and the population is 7,116.

Edgemont is not a municipality and it does not have its own postal designation (zip code). Residents of Edgemont receive all their municipal services from the Town of Greenburgh and they have either Scarsdale (10583) or Hartsdale (10530) mailing addresses.

However, in Westchester, most residents identify the community in which they reside by school district boundaries rather than municipal or postal designation boundaries. When someone says they live in Edgemont, they mean their home is located in the Edgemont school district.
